New operations to pursue ISIS in Iraq

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Thursday, Iraqi forces carried out a security operation in the city of Qarah Tapah, in the eastern province of Diyala, to pursue cells of the Islamic State (ISIS).

From time to time, Iraq witnesses security operations to pursue ISIS cells, which are still launching attacks throughout the country.

The Iraqi military and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) began, at dawn today, a wide search operation to secure the Jubbah Dagh mountain, located within the area between al-Naqshabandiyah and Khidran in Qarah Tapah areas, which are located in the eastern chain of the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad.

According to a statement by the PMF, the operation came to strengthen and preserve the security of citizens from the infiltration and attacks of ISIS sleeper cells.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy Joint Operations and the Commander of the Federal Police Forces arrived in Kirkuk, to see and follow up on a wide and comprehensive security operation in Kirkuk Governorate and the areas adjacent to Hamrin mountain range.

While receiving the commander of the US Central Command, General Michael Corella this week, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi stressed the importance of sustaining the momentum in the war against ISIS and preventing its cells from growing again.
