Excluding NE Syria from sanctions needs international pressure to re-opening border-crossings
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Excluding regions of northeast Syria from economic sanctions needs international pressure to re-open the closed border-crossings, an official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said on Sunday.
On February 25, American sources told North Press that Washington intended to exclude the AANES-held areas from the sanctions imposed on Syria within the framework of Caesar Act.
“Closing borders with northeast Syria worsened the effects of imposed sanctions on the region,” head of the AANES IDPs Affairs Office, Sheikhmous Ahmad said.
“Discussions are taking place on the exclusion of northeast Syria from the imposed sanctions on Syria, and this must begin with re-opening border crossings, especially Tel Kochar (al-Ya’roubiya),” Ahmad added.
“Caesar Act and the other sanctions imposed on Syrian government, affected the Syrian government and civilians a lot, whether in northeast Syria or other Syrian areas.”
He pointed out that closing Tel Kochar crossing is like losing the main artery to northeast Syria which worsening the damaged human condition due to the war.
