Russian-Israeli military coordination over Syria continues
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russia sees its military coordination with Israel over Syria is continuing, the Russian ambassador in Israel said yesterday.
“Our military officials discuss the practical issues of this substantively on a daily basis. This mechanism has proven to be useful and will continue to work,” the Russian embassy said in a statement.
The statement followed an Israeli condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Russian invasion is a serious violation of international order,” Israel said on February 24.
After the Russian military intervention in Syrian in 2015, Russia and Israel set up a “deconfliction mechanism”, which means the big power to avoid clashes inadvertently during Israeli strikes against Iranian targets in Syria.
Russia summoned the Israeli ambassador in Russia for talks.
Russia voiced support for Israel’s security needs, but also said it opposes violations of Syrian sovereignty.
