Iraq launches security operation against ISIS north of Baghdad
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Sunday, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced the beginning of inspection and pursuance operation against the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in Tarmiyah district, north of Baghdad.
“The operation was launched depending on intelligence information and accurate pursuance of ISIS sleeper cells, and security check of the suspects,” the PMF stated.
The operation includes inspections and secures several locations in the district, especially al-Sekrab area.
The operation preceded by security forces deployment in northern areas of Baghdad.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, declared yesterday the capture of an ISIS leader.
The leader is Muhammad Wahbi Faris al-Shagery, also known as Abu Ahmad, who was working as general coordinator for ISIS.
This operation followed the visit paid by the Iraqi anti-terror apparatus head Abdulwahab al-Sa’di to the security apparatus in Kurdistan Region (KRG) to enhance the joint coordination and exchange the precise information between both apparatuses, according to Rasoul.
