AANES lifts partial curfew in NE Syria except three regions
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Interior Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) decided to lift the partial curfew imposed earlier on AANES-held areas, except for three cities.
The decision to lift the curfew takes effect form today.
On January 23, the AANES imposed a total curfew on Hasakah governorate, northeast Syria, and it was followed by a partial curfew across the AANES-held areas. The curfew came in the wake of an attack by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) sleeper cells on al-Sina’a prison.
“The curfew is imposed because of the exceptional circumstances in areas in northeast Syria and attempts of the ‘obscurantists’ (as known in the local jargon) to strike peace, security and peaceful coexistence by activating the “terrorist sleeper cells”, the Interior Board said.
According to the decision (circulation), the interior board said a partial curfew is still into effect in Hasakah city, Hawl area and the city of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria until further notice.
Service institutions whose work demands continuous attendance are exempt from the decision.
