Government soldier survives assassination attempt in Syria’s Daraa 
Daraa, Syria (North Press) – On Monday late at night, one soldier of the Military Security Branch, affiliated with the Syrian government forces, survived a failed assassination attempt in Ataman village, on the outskirts of Syria’s southern city of Daraa.
Anonymous people placed an IED near the residence of Khalid Abdullah al-Rifa’i in Atman, a local source told North Press.
The IED detonated leaving material damage; however, al-Rifa’i survived, the source said.
Al-Rifa’i was the target of several assassinations, the last of which was in June 2020, when unknown people planted an IED in his vehicle. Al-Rifa’i was wounded severely and was hospitalized to Daraa city, the source said.
Al-Rifa’i joined the Syrian opposition armed factions when they controlled Syria’s south but in the summer of 2018, he joined the Military Security Branch, affiliated with the Syrian government.
Muhammad Bassam Terki al-Masalmeh, a commander of a military unit in the Fourth Armored Division affiliated with the Syrian government forces, was killed when an IED detonated in his vehicle in al-Matar neighborhood in the center of Daraa.
