ISIS cells responsible for massacre of eastern Iraq were killed
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – The Iraqi army announced yesterday evening the killing of an Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cell, believed to be responsible for al-A’zim massacre in Diyala governorate, eastern Iraq, two weeks ago.
The Iraqi F-16s conducted three strikes, killing nine ISIS members, Security Media Cell (SMC) stated.
Meanwhile, the National Security Agency said that three Lebanese were among ISIS group that was eliminated.
The security statement stressed that the operations will continue to knock the heads of ISIS members.
On January 21, ISIS members attacked al-A’zim area in Diyala, eastern Iraq, in which 11 soldiers of the Iraqi army were killed, including an officer.
Al-A’zim attack comes in tandem with the ISIS attack on al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah city, northeastern Syria.
The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, said that targeting ISIS cell “the targeting process was a strong message from the Iraqi armed forces and army that they are fully prepared to protect Iraqis and pursue terrorists.”
Rasoul added, “The security forces will have other rounds and arrivals to destroy the remnants of the terrorists.”
