Jordanian officer killed and three wounded near Syrian border

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Pres) – On Sunday, a fight with smugglers on the Syrian-Jordanian border claimed the life of one Jordanian officer and wounded three others.

Captain Muhammad Yasin Mousa al-Khederat lost his life and three other officers were wounded in armed clashes with drug smugglers in the early hours of Sunday morning, the official Jordanian agency stated.

A group of gunmen fired bullets on the border security forces in a border point northeastern Jordan, then shooting erupted between the two parties. The smugglers were forced to enter the Syrian territories, the agency said.

The whole area was checked and large numbers of narcotic drugs were found and sent to the related Jordanian authorities.

The Syrian government has yet to comment on the incident.

In late June 2021, the Jordanian authorities said it thwarted a cargo planned to smuggle illegal drugs on the Syrian-Jordanian borders.
