SDF seizes fuel heading to government-held areas in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DERI EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Hajin Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced yesterday, the seizure of large amounts of fuel and food stuff in Syria’s eastern city of Deir ez-Zor that were planned to be smuggled to the Syrian government-held areas.  

Forces of Hajin Military Council stormed two river crossings [on the Euphrates River] with the Syrian government held-towns of al-Bahra and Abu Hamam that are run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), east of Deir ez-Zor. 

The forces confiscated large amounts of fuel and foodstuff planned to be smuggled to government-held areas. Boats used for the smuggling were also confiscated.    

The Hajin Military Council announced it will continue the campaign launched in eastern Deir ez-Zor to counter smuggling operations and the illegal trade of fuel and its derivatives.  

In a voice call with North Press on January 6, commander of the Hajin Military Council, Ibrahim al-Jassem, said they deployed four military points on the banks of the Euphrates with the aim to monitor the river crossings for 24 hours a day.   

Large number of smuggling operations take place in east of Deir ez-Zor. Meanwhile, the SDF enforces intensive campaigns on the river crossings to prevent smuggling to the government-held areas.  

On January 4, the Hajin Military Council seized large amounts of food and industrial stuffs in Diban town  prepared to be smuggled to government-held areas.
