SDF confiscates materials ready to smuggle to Syrian government areas
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Tuesday it confiscated large quantities of materials were intended to be smuggled to Syrian government-controlled areas through river crossings used for smuggling in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
The official website of the Hajin Military Council, affiliated with the SDF, said they stormed river crossings used for smuggling operation in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor and confiscated cigarettes, fuel and food stuffs.
The forces of the Hajin Military Council confiscated, during the past week, more than ten thousand liters of fuel, large quantities of food, smoke and poultry, a military source from the SDF told North Press.
The source informed that clashes erupted between the SDF and smugglers, and some of them (smugglers) were wounded, while no SDF members were injured.
Based on the military forces’ keenness to achieve economic balance and stability, the aim of storming these smuggling crossings is to eliminate this phenomenon because of its significant negative impact on the region’s economy, the Military Council added through its official website.
The Military Council stressed that it “continues to combat all the forms smuggling, in order to stop those who want to destabilize the economic security of the region, adding that it will make its efforts to achieve self-sufficiency and economic prosperity for the people of the region.”
