Employees of international organizations back in Syria’s northeast through al-Walid crossing
DERIK, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, 36 employees of international organizations returned to areas held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) coming from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) through al-Walid border crossing.
The Semalka/ Faysh Khabur border crossing between the AANES-held areas and the KRG has been closed since mid-December 2021.
The employees of the international organizations crossed into the AANES-held areas after obtaining approvals by the Ministry of Interior of the KRG, a source in Semalka crossing told North Press.
The organizations forum coordinates with the responsible authorities in the KRG to facilitate entry of the employees of the international organizations, according to the same source.
Yesterday, about 400 people, who were stranded in the KRG, arrived to the AANES-held areas through al-Walid border crossing with the KRG.
Earlier, an official of crossings in north and east Syria said that Semalka crossing is open from its side.
