Rocket hits military camp west Baghdad
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Iraqi Security Media Cell announced that a rocket fell on al-Naser military camp west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, in an escalation coincides the second anniversary of killing Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell released a statement said one rocket hit al-Naser military camp west of Baghdad. The rocket was directed from al-Jihad neighborhood in western Baghdad.
Moreover, the Iraqi forces found a rocket launcher with an unfired 240 mm rocket which was removed and handed over to the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence, the statement said.
“Security forces and Intelligence agencies are working to uncover the perpetrators,” the statement read.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iraqi media outlets said several rockets hit an area near the Iraqi International Airport last night.
These attacks coincide the second anniversary of killing Major General Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi militia (Popular Mobilization Forces/ PMF).
On January 3, 2020, a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport killed Soleimani and al-Mohandes along with other escorts.
Moreover, yesterday, Ayn al-Asad airbase in Anbar governorate, central Iraq, was attacked with two drones.
Similarly, the day before yesterday, the Iraqi International Airport was targeted with two drones on Dublin military camp housing numbers of advisory personnel of the Global Coalition Forces.
This escalation follows a month after the Iraqi authorities officially announced the end of combat mission of the Global Coalition Forces.
Currently, the Iraqi forces attempt to reach understandings over forming the upcoming government three months after the early legislative elections.
