Turkey protects terrorist groups in Syria’s northwest, Mekdad

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkey is protecting terrorist groups in northwest Syria, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad said on Monday.

“Syria has fulfilled large achievements in the war against terrorism, but the terrorist organizations still exist, so Syria will continue this war until fully eliminating it,” Mekdad stressed in an interview with the state-run al-Ikhbariya TV channel.

“Al-Nusra Front terrorist organization still exists in Syria’s northwestern part under Turkish support,” he added.

“Turkey occupies parts of the Syrian lands, and it is Turkificating these parts and protecting terrorist groups in violation of the Astana understandings,” Mekdad noted.

“Syria will liberate the occupied parts by Turkey, whether Idlib or the northern regions along the Syrian-Turkish borders.”

The coercive economic measures imposed by the US and western countries on the Syrian people are illegitimate and they aim to achieve the agendas of these states, according to Mekdad.

“When enemies of Syria failed to achieve their goals through terrorism and killing, they resorted to hindering the political solution because they don’t want stability in the country,” the Syrian minister indicated.

Mekdad affirmed that “Syria rejects the West’s politicization of the issue of humanitarian aid, which must reaches its beneficiaries without discrimination, except for terrorists.”

“Syria deeply cares about its citizens and delivers humanitarian aid and coronavirus vaccines to all regions.  The West, however, is manipulating aid and making it a tool in the war on Syria,” Mekdad said.
