Tensions among Kurdish parties impede intra-Kurdish dialogue in Syria, Ilham Ahmad
RAQAA, Syria (North Press) – The tensions among the Kurdish parties have negatively affected the intra-Kurdish dialogue in Syria, president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ahmad, said yesterday.
Ilham Ahmad’s speech came at the annual meeting to evaluate the outcomes of the National Conference for the People of Jazira and the Euphrates in northeast Syria, which was held in the city of Raqqa northeast Syria yesterday.
In answer to one of the questions about the intra-Kurdish dialogue, Ilham Ahmad said the escalation among the Kurdish parties affected the dialogue between the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) and the Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK).
In April 2020, a dialogue between ENKS and the PYNK was launched by an invitation from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi to unify the political position of the Syrian Kurds.
Over years of the Syrian conflict, disagreements between the ENKS, under the umbrella of the opposition Syrian National Coalition and PYNK, led by the Democratic Union Party (PYD), continued.
The dialogue aims to unify the political discourse of the Syrian Kurds.
The president of the SDC referred to a meeting she had with the US envoy to the region, in which he said the issue of the dialogue among the Kurdish parties was at the top of his agenda and among his priorities.
She considered that all parties stand against the provocative operations carried out by some parties, and “we believe that these operations are illegal.”
“It was possible to avoid what happened at the Semalka crossing, which links northeastern Syria with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and to respond to the families who were inquiring about the fate of their sons,” Ilham Ahmad noted.
Two days ago, the management of the Faysh Khabur border crossing in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq suspended the movement of transit and trade with the Autonomous Administration areas in northeast Syria.
The suspension came following a stone throwing incident between protesters and the security forces on the bridge linking the two sides yesterday.
