Turkish-backed faction arrests resident of Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Turkish-backed Sham Legion faction arrested a resident of a village affiliated with Rajo district in the countryside of Afrin, north of Aleppo.

“The Sham Legion arrested the 45-year-old Hassan Sido because he filed a complaint against two settlers, who are relatives of the faction’s militants,” an eyewitness told North Press.

“Sido, who has a grocery, filed a complaint against the settlers, who are members of Bakour family who hail from Taldou, in the countryside of Homs, because they refused to repay their debts,” the source said.

Sido was arrested on the charge of insulting the Syrian National Army (SNA), Turkish government and the government institutions in the area and his fate is still unknown, according to the source.

Since early 2021, the Afrin region, northern Syria, has witnessed the arrest of more than 472 people, Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) said.

The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.

The Afrin region has been witnessing cases of killing, kidnapping and arrest, in addition to frequent bombings, amid the inability of the factions controlling it to settle the security in the region.
