Five opposition factions killed in government bombing on northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed on Tuesday evening military escalation and mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions, which resulted in the killing and wounding of several members of the latter.
The forces of Syrian government and Russia bombed the opposition factions’ sites in the villages and towns of Fatterah, Majdaliyah, Maarbalit, Kansafra and Fleifel in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, the sources said.
Five militants of the opposition were killed in the bombing, the sources added.
The sites of the opposition factions in the villages of al-Enkawi and Sirmaniyah in the Ghab Plain area, west of Hama, were also heavily hit by the bombing, according to the sources.
The al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes several factions, announced targeting government forces’ sites in Dar al-Kabira, Milaja and Hazarin, south of Idlib. It also targeted government sites in Jurin camp and al-Amqiya village, west of Hama, according to the same sources.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
