Turkish bombardment cuts off power to Syria’s Tel Tamr

TEL TAMAR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, artillery shelling by Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed factions cut off power to Tel Tamr countryside, north of Hasakah, northwest.

“The Turkish bombardment damaged the 66-KV power line near the village of Tel Karabet causing the power station to be out of service,” Fahed Sam’ila, an official of the Electricity Directorate in Tel Tamr, said.

The 66-KV, stretching from Hasakah, supplies the Tel Tamr-based power station with electricity.

Early on Tuesday, maintenance teams were dispatched to the area to disclose the size of damage and start maintenance work, Sam’ila noted.

Following the Turkish military aggression against northeast Syria in October 2019, this has been the sixth time the power station in Tel Tamr is out of service due to shelling.

Areas in the northern countryside of Hasakah have been under Turkish attack almost on a daily basis, the last of which was yesterday against the two villages of Tawila and Tel Karabet, causing material damage to civilians’ properties.

As a result of Turkish persistent shelling, 44 villages located between Tel Tamr and Abu Rasin (Zargan) have been witnessing power outage for over five months in light of the maintenance teams’ inability to reach them due to the shelling.
