Russian airstrikes target opposition positions in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Russian warplanes targeted posts of the opposition factions in the countryside of Jisr Shughur, west of Idlib, with several airstrikes in conjunction with targeting villages in the countryside of Idlib and Hama, northwest Syria, by the Syrian government forces.
The Russian airstrikes targeted civilian houses in Yacubiyeh village, in the countryside of Jisr Shughur, killing three civilians and wounding 12 others including children, eyewitnesses told North Press.
Syrian Civil Defense teams transferred the wounded to near medical points in the region, according to the eyewitnesses.
The Russian airstrikes coincided with intensive artillery and missile shelling by the government forces against the opposition posts in al-Enkawi town, and the villages of Kulaidan and al-Qahira in Ghab Plain, west Hama, Military sources told North Press.
Additionally, the shelling targeted the factions’ posts in the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra and Fleifel in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, in addition to targeting the villages of Kafr Ta’al and Tuqad, west of Aleppo, with several shells, according to the same sources.
Al-Fatah al-Mubin Operation’s Room targeted Syrian government forces’ sites east and south of Idlib, a military source of the National Liberation Front told North Press.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
