ISIS prominent leaders arrested in Iraq

ERBIL, Iraq, KRG (North Press) – On Thursday, the Iraqi Security Media Cell announced the arrest of three important members of the Islamic State organization (ISIS) in an intelligence operation in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The initial investigations, according to the statement by Security Media Cell, noted that one of the ISIS leaders, called Abu Hamza, has operated within the detachments of the state of southern Baghdad.  

The statement revealed that Abu Hamza had a brother affiliated with ISIS and he was killed in Idlib, northwest Syria, and was in charge of transferring weapons between Iraq and Syria.

As for the second, nicknamed Abu Anas, he worked within the ranks of ISIS in the so-called Anbar Province, and the third is wanted in the database of workers with ISIS, according to the statement.

The operation comes after a series of attacks that targeted separate areas in the southern governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, killing dozens of civilians and Peshmerga members, in addition to Basra explosion, two days ago, which killed 4 civilians.
