WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – The US Congress demanded the President Joe Biden’s administration on Wednesday submit a detailed report explaining the US military and political strategy in Syria in no more than 90 days, starting from the entry into force of the budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year 2022.
This came during the Congress’ approval of the US Department of Defense budget for the year 2022.
The budget included a number of recommendations and demands related to Syria, including the extension of the authorities of the US Department of Defense to provide support to the Syrian groups fighting the Islamic State (ISIS), which was previously evaluated by Washington.
The Congress asked the US Department of Defense and Department of State to provide clarifications about the future strategy for Syria and to present them to the relevant committees in the US Congress, in addition to a detailed investigation regarding the wealth of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
In another proposed draft that was not passed in the House of Representatives, a number of American lawmakers demanded an American law dismantling the drug manufacturing and trafficking network supervised by Damascus, according to the draft law.
Days ago, the US Department of Treasury imposed a new package of sanctions on a number of high-ranking officers from the Syrian Air Force and the Syrian security services, which it said were responsible for targeting civilians with chemical weapons.
