Syrian Foreign Minister to visit Iran
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian delegation, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad, arrives in the capital, Tehran, on Sunday evening.
The pro-government al-Watan newspaper reported that the delegation, which includes Bashar Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, will meet with senior Iranian official.
The visit will last for two days to discuss strengthening the strategic relations that unite the two countries, according to al-Watan.
This is Mekdad’s second visit to Iran since he assumed the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and his first under the new Iranian administration headed by Ebrahim Raisi.
A few days ago, Syria received a large Iranian economic delegation headed by Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin, Iranian Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade, where he met with senior Syrian officials.
Amin attended the inauguration ceremony of Iranian trade center in Damascus on November 29.
These meetings come in light of what observers describe as a Russian-Iranian competition over financial and economic influence in Syria.
