Iran inaugurates trade center in Damascus

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An Iranian trade center was inaugurated yesterday in the free zone in Damascus, the Syrian capital.

Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin, Iranian Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade attended the inauguration ceremony.

The trade center includes several Iranian firms specialized in commerce, industry, agriculture and construction.

The free zone, in central Damascus, is 77,500 m² and is famous for economic, industrial, trade and service fields.

“Iran seeks to increase joint investments and exchange of expertise between Syria and Iran to support Syria in the post-war phase and to raise the volume of trade exchange between the two countries,” Fatemi Amin said.

The head of the Iranian-Syrian Joint Chamber of Commerce, Kiwan Kashfi, said the new trade center will be the basis of Iranian trade in Syria.

“The new center enables Iranian private sector companies to do trade exchanges between Syria and Iran,” he added.

Iranian economic activities in Syria coincide with deteriorating livelihood and economic conditions Syria encounter for almost a decade. The Syrians suffer lack of basic stuff, inflation, shortage of fuel, and the fall of the SYP against the USD.

Earlier reports by the Syrian government said the industrial sector in Syria lost billions and thousands of pounds as industrialists immigrated abroad due to worsening security and economic conditions.
