Former opposition leader killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Muhammad Khalif, 56, known as Abu Musa’b al-Khalidi, a former opposition leader, was killed on Saturday by unknown gunmen in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.

“Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle on the road between the towns of Muzayrib and al-Yadudah in the western countryside of Daraa, shot al-Khalif, North Press reported local sources.

He was transported to the Public Hospital in the city of Daraa, but he died there, the sources said. 

Al-Khalif was among those who reconciled with the Syrian government in the summer of 2018, and joined a local group affiliated with the Military Security Branch of the government forces, according to the sources.

After completing with the processes of settlement in early November, the number of assassinations and murders against residents and government soldiers in Daraa has increased.  

On December 2, four people were killed in two separate incidents in Daraa governorate.

On November 30, two people were shot dead in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
