Conditions of IDP camps NE Syria are tragic: Autonomous Administration
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, an official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said the camps housing IDPs in northeast Syria have extreme tragic conditions specially with the advent of winter.
The AANES has set up many camps in the region to house IDPs during the times of Syrian war, some of them are Hawl, Arishah, Newroz, Washokani and Roj.
Other camps including al-Awda, Sardam, Shahba, Afrin, Tel Abyad, al-Mahmoudli, in addition to two other camps in Manbij city were established in northeast Syria following Turkish invasion between 2018 and 2019.
Sheikhmous Ahmad, co-chair of the Refugees and IDPs Bureau of the AANES, told North Press that the IDPs suffer severe shortage of humanitarian assistance due to the closure of Tel Kocher crossing on the Syrian-Iraqi border and the limited potentials of the AANES.
“In winter, some tents, sheets, beds and pillows need to be changed. Medical supplies for chronic diseases are urgently needed,” he said.
“The AANES is communicating with international parties in order to prevent politicizing the file of humanitarian assistance,” Ahmad added.
The IDPs are Syrian people in the first place and are paying the bill of international powers that intervened in the Syrian affairs, according to Ahmad.
The closure of Tel Kocher crossing, the main vein to Syrian territories, increases the suffering of the IDPs day by day, the AANES official noted.
Almost two years ago, Tel Kocher crossing point was closed in the face of humanitarian aid by a Russian veto.
The aid entering Syria is currently limited through Bab al-Hawa crossing on the Syrian-Turkish border.
