SDF, Coalition arrested 57 ISIS members in Syria’s northeast in a month

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In October, Special Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), with the participation of the US-led Global Coalition forces, arrested 57 members and leaders of the Islamic State organization (ISIS) sleeper cells active in northeastern Syria.

North Press obtained a document from the Military Monitoring Office of the SDF, in which the office recorded the security operations carried out during October 2021, in northeastern Syria.

The SDF Special Units and  Asayish, with the participation of the Global Coalition and with their air surveillance, carried out security operations during October 2021.

The security operations included three areas (Hasakah and its countryside, Deir ez-Zor countryside and Raqqa), and large quantities of weapons, military equipment, communications equipment and documents were confiscated.  

These operations contributed to enhancing security and stability within northeastern Syria.

On October 1, the Asayish Special Units managed to arrest three members.

The arrested were  active in facilitating the movement of ISIS members and communicating with the rest of the cells operating in the area to carry out assassinations and targeting operations for the security and military forces and civilians working in the Autonomous Administration.

On October 4, SDF Special units supported by the Global Coalition, arrested two members of an ISIS sleeper cell on the outskirts of the town of al-Shuhail in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The two members were active in the manufacture of explosive devices and mines, storing them and transporting them to the active cells in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor and planting them to target civilian, military and security vehicles as they pass through the area.

Weapons and equipment used in the manufacture of explosive devices and mines were also confiscated, in addition to documents they had in their possession during the raid.

On October 8, the SDF carried out a security operation in the Jadid Akidat area in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

During this operation, it was able to arrest a wanted cell member working in financing and transferring weapons, in addition to transporting other materials used in the manufacture of explosives.

He was also planning the operations of targeting military and security points.

On October 9, the SDF carried out a security operation targeting an ISIS cell in the town of al-Sha’fa in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. 

During the operation four ISIS members were arrested, one of whom was the leader of the cell, and weapons, military and technical equipment, in addition to documents, were confiscated.

Also in Deir ez-Zor countryside, specifically in al-Tekaihi area, the SDF arrested, on October 10, five wanted persons belonged to ISIS who were working to facilitate the organization’s work and carry out targeting operations.

On October 12, the Asayish arrested a member of an ISIS cell in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

A day later, the SDF, with the support of the Global Coalition forces, carried out a security operation in the eastern countryside of Hasakah city.

During the operation, an important official was targeted for transferring money to the families of ISIS members and leaders inside Hawl Camp.

He was arrested on the outskirts of the town of al-Hawl, and documents and some military equipment were found with him. 

In Markada area in the southern countryside of Hasakah, the Asayish carried out a security operation on October 14, which resulted in the arrest of an important member of an ISIS cell.

On October 16, the Asayish special units, supported by the Global Coalition, carried out a security operation in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, during which they arrested 22 members, including leaders of an ISIS cell, in the town of al-Riz.

The operation was carried out based on accurate information, follow-up and investigation by the security services, for a cell affiliated with the ISIS, which includes a large number of agents.

According to the information, the members were working on planning assassinations, transferring militants, targeting security and military points, dignitaries, tribal sheikhs, and civilians working in the Autonomous Administration institutions.

On the same day, in al-Suwar area in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, the SDF special units carried out a security operation that resulted in the arrest of four wanted men working for ISIS cells active in the area.

In the south of Qamishli, specifically in the town of Tel Brak, the Asayish carried out a security operation on October 19, a member of an ISIS cell working to promote the group and facilitate the movement of cell members was arrested.

On October 20, the SDF, with the participation of the Global Coalition, arrested an ISIS cell official  in the village of al-Jardhi al-Sharqi in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

And they confiscated weapons and military equipment that he had in his possession, which he used to carry out assassinations and to communicate with the rest of the active cell members in the area.

On October 22, the SDF arrested an ISIS cell official, in al-Busayrah area in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. 

They confiscated weapons and military equipment he owned, as he was active in planning assassinations, promoting for ISIS and carrying out operations targeting the security and military forces. He had previously participated in battles within ISIS ranks and was previously injured.

In the city of Raqqa, the SDF carried out a security operation on October 24, arresting two leaders of an active cell in the city, and confiscating weapons and military equipment. 

On October 15, in al-Azbah area in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, SDF special units arrested six wanted ISIS members.

In the same countryside, specifically in the village of al-Sabha, the SDF arrested a cell leader on October 28, who was involved in planning and carrying out attacks against the security and military forces.

On October 30, the SDF Special Units and the Global Coalition forces carried out a security operation in the Ghweiran neighborhood of the city of Hasakah.  

An ISIS cell leader was arrested in the operation, as he involved in transmitting information and planning assassinations and attacks against security and military forces.
