Euphrates Region of Syria’s AANES imposes total lockdown amid Covid-19 surge
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Crisis Management Cell in the Euphrates Region, northern Syria, imposed a total 10-day lockdown to limit the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
“The lockdown came as reports by the Health Board of the Euphrates Region showed surge in the numbers of the infections,” Ahmad Mahmoud, member of the Crisis Management Cell and co-chair of the Health Board, said.
“The total lockdown is scheduled to start from October 16 to 25,” Mahmoud added.
He indicated that this week, 176 infections and nine deaths were recorded.
Under the closure circulation, all kinds of stores and groceries, religious buildings, wedding venues, and condolences tents shut down, and any breach to the circulation exposes liability.
Only farmers are permitted in and out of the city from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to facilitate agriculture affairs, according to the circulation.
Institutions of the Autonomous Administration, including universities, schools, institutes and offices also shut under the total lockdown.
Few establishments whose work require constant attendance are exempt from the closure, Mahmoud noted.
It is noteworthy that during the fourth wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the Health Board of the Euphrates Region recorded 566 infections and 15 deaths.
