Oil and electricity sector losses amounted $200 billion: Damascus

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The losses of the oil and electricity sectors have amounted to $195 billion due to the war, the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Muhammad Samer al-Khalil, said on Wednesday.

In a press conference, the Syrian minister added that there is no final figure for the losses of the Syrian economy as a result of the war in Syria.

“The losses of the Syrian economy are cumulative and recorded, but it is not possible to talk about final numbers until all Syrian territory is restored,” he noted.

Regarding the losses of the oil and electricity sectors in Syria, the minister pointed out that these two sectors have been the most affected, as they were subjected to “aggressions, systematic destruction and theft.”

He stated that direct and indirect losses in the oil sector in Syria until 2020 amounted to $95 billion, while the losses in the electricity sector amounted to $100 billion.
