US underscores the importance of maintaining ceasefire lines in northeast Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US underscores the importance of maintaining ceasefire lines and halting cross-border attacks in northeastern Syria, the US State Department said in a statement on Tuesday.
“It is crucial for all sides to maintain and to respect ceasefire zones, to enhance stability in Syria, and to work towards a political solution to the conflict,” Ned Price, Department spokesperson added.
On October 7, the official spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Aram Hanna, said, “Turkish forces have not committed to the ceasefire agreements for two years, and are continuing to violate them by bombing residential areas.”
Two years ago, on October 9, the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions invaded the cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad, following an American withdrawal from the Syrian-Turkish border.
“The number of ground attacks on the areas of Tel Tamr, Zergan and Ain Issa in the past two years amounted to 433 with heavy weapons and drones, and 86 attempts to advance which were repelled and thwarted by the SDF,” added.
“The Biden’s administration officials expressed their desire to keep US forces in northeast Syria,” SDC representative in Washington, Sinem Muhammad, told North Press on September 29.
Muhammad cited US administration officials saying that this aims at ensuring the establishment of long-term stability in the region and enabling it to withstand any future challenges.
