Russian warplanes target opposition sites in Syria’s Latakia
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Russian warplanes launched air strikes on the Turkish-backed opposition-held areas north of Latakia on Syria’s coast.
Military sources of the opposition told North Press that the Russian warplanes targeted the opposition-held areas in Khedr Hills in Jabal al-Akrad region, north of Latakia, with several raids.
They added that the Russian air strikes coincided with artillery and missile shelling by Syrian government forces on the towns of al-Fatira and Sfuhun and the outskirts of the towns of Kansafra and Kafr Oweid in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.
The bombing resulted in material damage to more than 18 houses in the aforementioned areas; while no casualties were reported, according to sources in the Syrian Civil Defense.
In addition, a military source of al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room told North Press that the factions targeted the government forces’ positions on Kafr Halab and Mizanaz, west of Aleppo, with heavy artillery shells and missiles.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
