Government forces continue shelling opposition sites in northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Syrian government forces bombed sites of opposition factions in the western countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria, leaving material damage.
The government forces bombed the opposition factions’ sites in the towns of Tedil, Kafr Noran and Kafr Ta’al, in the western countryside of Aleppo, with more than 50 artillery shells, opposition sources told North Press.
The bombing resulted in destruction of homes in the aforementioned areas, in addition to damage to some trees and surrounding forests, the sources added.
The factions’ positions near the towns of Kansafra and al-Bara, south of Idlib, were hit by similar shelling with heavy artillery shells and rocket launchers by the government forces, according to the same sources.
The sources indicated that the bombing coincided with intense flight of Russian drones over the area, without casualties reported.
Meanwhile, al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes several factions, announced targeting the government forces’ positions near the town of al-Bereij in the southern countryside of Idlib.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
