Syria’s Sere Kaniye IDPs demand international guarantees for return

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, spokesman of a committee of the displaced people of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) called on the international community for guarantees that secure a safe return for the IDPs.

Two years ago, Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed Syrian factions took control over the two cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad following the US withdrawal.

“Turkey and its mercenaries failed to secure the least requirements for life in the occupied areas as a result of lack of security and safety,” the official spokesman of the committee, Mahmoud Jamil, said.

Several international and regional human rights organizations have documented violations committed by the opposition factions against local residents.

“Violations including seizing residents’ possessions, destroying infrastructure, and killing is ongoing,” Jamil added.

The spokesman of the committee of the Sere Kaniye IDPs called on “International Bill of Human Rights” to secure a safe and honorable return “in order to protect us from abuses and violations.”

“This cannot be fulfilled unless Turkish occupier exits our cities and through offering economic support to the occupied areas. Without obtaining these guarantees, we cannot return,” he pointed out.
