New settlements take place in Syria’s Daraa towns

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday evening, a meeting between representatives of the residents of Nasib town, in Daraa countryside, southern Syria, and the government forces with the attendance of Russian Military Police (MP) ended, were they agreed on settling the status of people in the town and handing over quantities of weapons.  

The town of Nasib is strategically important because it is near the border crossing, which hold the name of the town, with Jordan.

During the meeting, which was held in the command of the 9th Division in the town, they agreed to begin with settling the status of dozens of wanted individuals for the government security apparatuses on October 9, local sources from al-Sanamain town, told North Press.

The government forces handed over a list of names of wanted people, who should settle their status and hand over quantities of weapons, to the representatives of al-Sanamain, the sources added.

The meeting was attended by Major General Hossam Luqa, head of the security committee of the government forces, Brigadier General Lou’ay al-Ali, head of the Military Security Branch in Daraa, and Imad Abu Zureiq, the leader of an armed group affiliated with the Military Security Bbranch in the town, according to the same sources.

The new settlements will include the towns of Nasib, al-Tayba, and Umm al-Mayazin in Daraa villages.

On September 5, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, in the presence of a number of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security points in the towns of Daraa governorate. 

Daraa was subjected to a suffocating siege imposed by Iranian-backed factions and the government forces for more than two months. Finally, an agreement was reached between the parties to the conflict brokered by Russia on a ceasefire and the entry of government forces into the besieged neighborhoods.
