Government forces target Syria’s Daraa countryside despite settlement
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Yesterday on Monday evening, and two days after the start of the settlement process, Syrian government forces bombed the northern countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, wounding a child.
The government forces bombed the town of Jassen with four shells, one of which was a live shell and three flares, wounding the child, Zayid Trad Hilal al-Jalam, who was hospitalized to Damascus, local sources told North Press.
The bombing coincided with the departure of the Russian Military Police (MP) from the town and the deployment of government forces in the vicinity of the Cultural Center where the settlement is taking place, the sources added.
The tension arose as a result of the dissatisfaction of the security committee of the government forces with the number of weapons handed over in the city, as it demanded the residents to hand over a larger number of weapons, according to the sources.
The sources pointed out that the Central Committee gave the town’s residents until six o’clock this evening, on Tuesday, before heading to escalate if its demands were not implemented.
On October 3, the security services of the Syrian government forces entered the town of Jassem in the northern countryside of Daraa, accompanied by the Russian MP and notables of the city.
The entry of the security services into the town comes in implementation of the agreement reached between the government forces and the region’s notables brokered by Russia to settle the status of wanted persons in a number of towns and villages in the northern countryside of Daraa.
Daraa was subjected to a suffocating siege imposed by Iranian-backed factions and the government forces for more than two months. Finally, an agreement was reached between the parties to the conflict brokered by Russia on a ceasefire and the entry of government forces into the besieged neighborhoods.
