SDF Special Units arrest an “important” member of ISIS

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the official spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Aram Hanna, said that the Special Units of the SDF had arrested an “important” member of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Hasakah countryside, northeast Syria.

Hanna posted on his official Facebook that the accused was “active in manufacturing explosives and transports them to the active sleeper cells in the rural areas of Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor.

The US-led Global Coalition forces supported the operation, which was carried out in the Markada area, in the southern countryside of Hasakah.

The SDF forces found a quantity of materials used in “the manufacture of explosives, weapons and ammunition, in addition to documents and technical equipment,” according to the SDF spokesman.

Hanna classified the operation “within the framework of joint and continuous steps to combat terrorism represented by ISIS sleeper cells and the rest of the terrorist cells that aim to destabilize security in north and east Syria.”

On September 17, the SDF Special Units carried out a security operation in the Tabqa area, west of Raqqa, northern Syria, in which they arrested 20 mercenaries in charge of committing acts of sabotage.

The SDF, with support of the Global Coalition forces have intensified their security operations in Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor area to pursue ISIS sleeper cells.
