IED explosion kills three Turkish soldiers, wounds others in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Friday-Saturday night, three Turkish soldiers were killed and others were wounded as a result of an IED explosion north of Idlib, northwest Syria.
The IED exploded with a Turkish military patrol while passing on the road that links the city of Idlib and Bab al-Hawa near the town of Kafarya in the northern countryside of Idlib, sources from the opposition told North Press.
“As a result of the explosion, three Turkish soldiers lost their lives and three others were wounded and were transferred to Turkish hospitals for treatment,” the sources added.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the killing of two of its soldiers and the wounding of three others in an attack following an inspection and a combing operation in the de-escalation zone in Idlib.
So far, no party has claimed responsibility for the targeting, while security authorities in the area are searching for any evidence that would lead them to the party that planted and detonated the bomb, according to the same sources.
Turkish patrols are successively targeted by unidentified groups reporting casualties and wounded among Turkish troops. Meanwhile, the Ansar Abu Bakr al-Siddiq group claimed responsibility for most of these attacks.
Not much is known about the Ansar Abu-Bakr al-Siddiq brigade, which is unaffiliated with any Turkish-backed or regime-backed military coalitions or operations rooms; local sources suggest that it is the remnants of the Guardians of Religion Organization.
