Syrian government forces target opposition in Idlib and Hama

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Since Friday morning, the de-escalation zones in Idlib, northwest Syria, have witnessed mutual shelling between Turkish-backed armed opposition factions and government forces, amid intense flight of Russian reconnaissance aircraft.

Military sources told North Press that government forces stationed in the city of Kafr Nabl bombed sites of the opposition factions in the towns of Fateira, Kafr Aweed, Sufuhun, Kansafra and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.

The sources added that the bombing also targeted the villages of Mjdlya and Kadoura in Jabal al-Arba’in area in the southern countryside of Idlib, from government forces’ positions in the city of Saraqeb, no casualties were reported.

The government bombardment also targeted the town of al-Ziyara and the villages of Sarmaniya, Tel Wasit, al-Mansoura, and al-Qarqur in the western Hama countryside.

Meanwhile, the opposition factions bombarded the positions of the government forces in the town of Khan al-Sabil east of Idlib, with artillery and rockets according to the same sources.

The sources indicated that Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front) and Jaysh al-Izza along with the National Front for Liberation, bombed military gatherings of government forces in Zawiya Mountain with artillery shells.

On Thursday, the government forces bombed houses in the town of Iblin, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery and rockets, local sources told North Press.

The bombing killed seven civilians, including three children and a woman, and wounded seven others, the sources added.

For months, the countryside of Idlib has been witnessing an escalation and exchange of shelling between the government forces and pro-Turkish factions, resulting in casualties and the displacement of hundreds of residents.

On Thursday, several villages and towns in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, northwest Syria, witnessed angry protests denouncing the silence of Turkish forces over the recent military escalation of Russia and the Syrian government forces in southern Idlib, which led to the killing and wounding of dozens.

Hundreds of residents of villages and towns protested in front of the Turkish points in Zawiya Mountain area, blocking the roads leading to them with stones and burning tires, local sources from the area told North Press.
