Mutual bombardment between government forces, opposition in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the de-escalation zone in the countryside of Idlib and Latakia, northwest Syria, witnessed mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition groups.
Military sources in the opposition told North Press that the government forces bombed, the Turkish point in the town of Sufuhn, Fateira, and Falafel in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with artillery shells and rocket launchers.
The sites of the opposition groups in the town of San, Majdalaya, east of Idlib, were also subjected to mortar shelling from the positions of the neighboring government forces in the city of Saraqib, according to the same sources.
The bombing coincided with intense flight of Russian reconnaissance planes and warplanes over Idlib and the countryside of Hama, and Latakia, without recording any air strikes, according to the same source.
The military escalation comes within the de-escalation zone between the Syrian government forces and the pro-Turkey opposition groups, despite the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement, which has entered its second year.
