Government, opposition’s mutual shelling leaves casualties in Latakia
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday evening, the de-escalation zones in the Idlib and Latakia regions in northwestern Syria witnessed a continuation of mutual shelling between the armed opposition factions and the Syrian government forces, which resulted in deaths and injuries among the latter’s ranks.
The opposition factions bombed the government forces’ sites in the city of Salma, north of Latakia, western Syria, with heavy artillery shells and missiles, military sources said.
The bombing resulted in deaths and injuries and the destruction of several sites, while no further details were provided about the number of casualties, the sources added.
On Saturday, the Syrian government forces renewed their shelling of the fortifications of the pro-Turkish opposition factions in the de-escalation zone, as part of the mutual shelling between the two sides in the area.
The government forces bombed the fortifications of the armed factions near the villages and towns of Sufuhn, al-Fatira, al-Ruwaiha, Benin, and Kansafra, located in Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, with artillery shells and rocket launchers, military sources in the opposition told North Press.
The armed factions’ sites in the towns of Kafr Noran, Kafr Ta’al and the city of Atarib, west of Aleppo, were also hit by mortar shelling from the positions of the government forces in the regiment 46 in the same area, according to the same sources.
The bombing coincided with intense flight of Russian warplanes and reconnaissance planes in the countryside of Idlib, Hama and Latakia, without recording any air strikes.
