Turkey shells villages of Syria’s Tel Abyad countryside
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed groups shelled the villages of Afdoko and Koperlek in the western countryside of Tel Abyad, north Raqqa, with heavy weapons.
The shelling set fire to civilian houses and crops, local sources told North Press.
Violations by Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed groups are ongoing against the occupied areas and on frontlines, the head of the Tel Abyad Military Council, Riad al-Khalaf, said on Friday morning.
On Tuesday, as a result of the Turkish shelling on the western countryside of Tel Abyad, a civilian was wounded.
Since early this week, Turkish forces and affiliated armed groups have been shelling villages in the western countryside of Tel Abyad with heavy weapons, al-Khalaf said in an exclusive voice record to North Press.
Days ago, a Syrian government soldier was wounded as a result of the Turkish shelling on villages in the western countryside of Tel Abyad.
Syrian government forces, which are operating in coordination with Russian forces that exist in the town of Ain Issa, 50 kilometers north Raqqa, deploy on the frontlines with Turkish forces in villages of both western and southern countryside of Tel Abyad.
Recently, Turkey forces have committed several violations against residents including kidnapping women and civilians in exchange for ransoms to release them, al-Khalaf pointed out.
Since Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed groups took control over the cities of Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye in late 2019, violations against local residents have been continuing, according to human rights reports.
