Syria’s AANES to hold local elections in 2021
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Presidency of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria began preparing for local elections for the current year 2021.
The Presidency met with former members of the Electoral Commission in the regions of Jazira and the Euphrates.
The meeting came with the aim of benefiting from the experience of these members to establish a new electoral commission and prepare for holding comprehensive local elections in the AANES areas.
This comes in implementation of one of the outcomes of the Conference of the People of the Jazira and the Euphrates Regions, which was held on November 25,2020, and stressed the need to hold these elections within a period not exceeding a year.
This step is considered the beginning of the appropriate preparations for holding these elections in order to avoid any defect in their organization in all respects.
The former members of the Commission presented their vision for these elections and the mechanism for organizing them within the current circumstances in the region, in addition to the logistical preparations for the completion of an electoral process that is not tainted by any errors.
They stressed that they “are fully prepared to provide any assistance in order to support the new members with the required expertise.”
In turn, the Presidency thanked the members of the Commission for their sense of responsibility and asked them to follow up the the preparation process of the upcoming elections.
On Thursday, the General Council of the Autonomous Administration set the form of a committee to renew the formulation of the “social contract” in force in the AANES areas.
This came at a meeting of the council members in the city of Raqqa.
The social contract in definition by AANES is a set of theoretical and practical foundations, laws and organizational rules, which are established to determine the relationship between the ruler and the governed and to clarify the rights and duties of individuals and officials within society.
