Exams according to Syria’s AANES curricula begin
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, dozens of ninth grade students headed to exam centers in the city of Hasakah.
On Sunday, the secondary certificate exams in the Jazira region, according to the curricula of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), began with the participation of 900 students in Hasakah and its countryside, while the number of students taking the preparatory certificate exams in Hasakah was 1,500.
The secondary and preparatory exams will continue until June 27.
Ahmed Haj Ibrahim, from Hasakah, expressed his happiness that his daughter is taking the preparatory certificate exams “in her mother tongue.”
It is worth noting that the Autonomous Administration has begun teaching its educational curricula since the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, as it began to apply it first to the first to third grades of primary school, and then to apply it successively to other grades.
This year, the secondary certificate exams are being done for the first time in Kurdish in the Jazira region, while such exams were done in Kobani and Afrin before 2018.
The education system in the Autonomous Administration focuses on mother languages (Kurdish, Arabic and Syriac) in the first grades, to add another local language subject in later grades, then English.
A number of students said that they “did their exams in a calm and appropriate atmosphere, and that the questions were not very difficult.”
Four schools have been assigned for exams in Hasakah, namely Falak Hawas and Mazen Hussein in al- Mufti neighborhood, and Jan Hajjar and Ahmad Mikhlif schools in al- Salhiya neighborhood, in addition to a number of examination centers in the city of Durbasiyah.
