New water line to feed neighborhoods in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Hajin Water Department in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, has started, in coordination with a local organization, the implementation of a project to extend an alternative water line to feed several neighborhoods in the city.
Residents of Hajin are suffering from a severe shortage of water due to the destruction to the infrastructure after the battles it witnessed between ISIS and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by the Global Coalition two years ago.
Head of Services Committee in the eastern region of Deir ez-Zor Muhammad al-Ilka said that the water line in Hajin has begun to extend a water line with a length of 1,700 meters and a diameter of 8 inches.
The new line irrigates about 25,000 people in many neighborhoods of the village of Hawama, west of Deir ez-Zor and some neighborhoods of the city’s market.
The suffering of the residents of Hajin has increased with the Turkish seizure of the Euphrates River water, as the water stations and agricultural associations went out of service for several times in May.
Moreover, an additional service line will be extended to feed the public hospital in Hajin, al-Ilka referred.
There are three main water stations that feed about 90% of the citizens in Hajin.
The project began on May 27, and is scheduled to end on June 10, according to al-Ilka.
This line is considered one of the most important lines in the city. Work is undergoing to connect several neighborhoods of the city to the same line.
Al-Ilka pointed out that the upcoming period will witness rehabilitation of all water networks in Hajin.
