French professor held online lecture at Syria’s Kobani University
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the University of Kobani organized a lecture by French professor Eric Fassin entitled “Democratic policy, minorities, gender, and ethnicity” with the teachers and students of Kobani University attending it.
During the lecture they discussed several issues including the reasons why systems in the world do not accept critical thought, deputy co-presidency of Scientific Affairs in Kobani University, Muhammad Rashid, said.
The lecture also mentioned “why a social sexual policy and other issues related to national minorities have not been established and adopted yet?”
Rashid cited the philosopher saying, “No matter how many national minorities there are; however, they have to conform among themselves in order to have political influence in the region and the country in which they are living.”
Eric Fassin, a French sociologist, is an academic professor at University of Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis, Department of Political Science and Gender Studies.
The lecture comes in the framework of a campaign by Kobani University in order to contact with all academics whether Kurds living abroad or international ones, according to Rashid.
By organizing such a lecture, the university has two goals, one is scientifically, which is to make use of experiences and works of academics, living outside the area, to develop the university, and culturally and intellectually goal to develop the society and the university students’ level, as he noted.
The lecture, which held via Zoom app, was organized under the auspice of Kobani University in Baqi Khedo Center for Culture and Art with the attendance of about 75 people including teachers and students of the university.
In April, Kobani University organized a lecture by a Slovenian philosopher entitled “Is Democracy still a choice nowadays.”
