Local organization in Syria’s Raqqa demands neutralizing Euphrates from political conflicts
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a local organization in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria, held an event bearing the title of “Peace Messages from the Euphrates”, in which it asked to neutralize the Euphrates River form political conflicts and pressure Turkey to adhere by the international agreements.
For months, Turkey has been declining the flow of the Euphrates River water towards the Syrian territories which led to living crises and popular discontent in the areas that depend on the river for drinking and irrigation.
“This event primarily sheds light on the of the Euphrates River cut-off and the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of this beautiful area in our Raqqa,” said Salih Muhammad, official of the Women for Peace Organization.
“The Euphrates River is the lifeblood of most of the residents of this region and putting pressures on Turkey is the duty of everyone and is not limited to one person as the fate of Raqqa is dependent on this river,” he added.
A number of citizens form Raqqa, volunteers of several local organizations and committees of the Raqqa Civil Council participated in this event.
The event included a number of artistic activities, like “singing and sending candles of love and peace in the river.”
