HDP calls on Masoud Barzani to hold national conference
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Friday, the Turkish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) made an appeal to head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) Masoud Barzani, calling for the holding of a Kurdish national conference.
“The appeal is addressed to Barzani because of his long history that he spent in revolutionary struggle, and for being, through his whole life, a wise man for Kurds, for his importance, and his international ties,” the statement said.
This call came in light of the intense Turkish shelling, which is considered an extension of the same mentality that targeted Afrin and Sere Kaniye, on areas in KRG during the past two weeks, according to the statement.
Regarding the trial of HDP deputies in Turkey because of their support for Syria’s Kobani against Islamic State (ISIS) attacks, Muhammad Sharif Solen of HDP said, “Through this trial, they say to ISIS, ‘we are your main ally.'”
On April 24, the Turkish judiciary started the trial of 108 members of the HDP for their participation in demonstrations in Turkey in support of Kobani during the attack by ISIS militants in 2014 and 2015.
“If two individuals meet for the sake of Kurdish unity, we will bow in front of them and we will be glad if Kurds are united in the current century,” Solen elaborated regarding intra-Kurdish talks in Syria.
The dialogue between PYD-led Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK) and the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) started in late 2019, with an initiative launched by the SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi to unify the Kurdish position under American sponsorship.
In late April, conversation renewed regarding the continuation of these talks after two separate meetings between the US Deputy Envoy to Syria David Brownstein with ENKS and PYNK.
