Supporting Assad’s election campaign in Suwayda costs tens of millions

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Directorate of Tourism of Suwayda, southern Syria and under the supervision of the Baath Party branch, began lighting Salkhad castle in the southeastern countryside of the city, at a cost of fifty million Syrian pounds, as part of an election campaign for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Nowadays, Suwayda is witnessing activities in support of the current president, Bashar al-Assad, supported by Baath Party branch and the security authorities, by erecting tents in the squares, which they called a “homeland tent,” amid the deteriorating economic conditions of the population and the majority’s indifference to the elections.

“Under the direction of the Ministry of Tourism of the Syrian government and the supervision of the Baath Party branch in Suwayda, a budget of more than fifty million Syrian pounds was allocated to light the Salkhad castle as part of the electoral campaign for Assad,” Rafiq Sa’eed, a pseudonym for a member of the financial committee of the Tourism Directorate in Suwayda, told North Press.

“The cost of the three days of lighting, a tent, sweets, coffee, sound equipment, decoration and the accessories exceeds fifty million Syrian pounds, which were provided from Damascus in an urgent manner,” he added.

He pointed out that the direct responsible for this event is “a security officer in charge of the Salkhad region, called Anwar al-Wawi, who is notorious among the local residents.”
