Shelling between government forces, Turkish-backed groups in Syria’s de-escalation zone

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, mutual shelling erupted in the de-escalation zone, northwest Syria, between Damascus government forces and Turkish-backed armed groups in different areas in the south Idlib countryside.

Government forces targeted posts of the Turkish-backed armed groups in the towns of Kansafrah and al-Fatirah in Zawiya Mountain, south Idlib countryside, with heavy artillery, military sources from the groups told North Press.

On Tuesday night, armed groups’ posts in the towns of al-Bara and Kafar Aweed, south Idlib, witnessed mortar shelling, reporting no human casualties, according to the same sources.

The shelling coincided with intensive flight of Russian warplanes and drones over the countryside of Idlib, Hama, Latakia, and Aleppo, reporting no casualties.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, that includes Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaysh al-Izza (Army of Glory) in addition to the National Front for Liberation (a Turkish-backed Syrian opposition coalition), announced that they targeted government forces’ posts in the city of Kafr Nubul, south Idlib countryside.
