Former anti-government fighters survive assassination attempt in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday dawn, unidentified persons targeted two of the most prominent figures wanted by the Syrian government in the eastern town of Kark in the eastern countryside of Daraa, a local source from the eastern countryside of Daraa said.

Unidentified persons targeted both Malik al-Khalyfa, nicknamed Abu Jandal and Hamza al-Ghabaghbi, wounding them, the source added.

The targeted people are accused of killing members of the government forces in an attack carried out by armed men on a military checkpoint of the Air Force Intelligence Service in the eastern town of Kark, in the middle of 2020, according to the source.

Al-Khalyfa previously was a member of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, while al-Ghabaghi was a member of the Southern Front groups previously before the settlement agreement in southern Syria 2018, according to the source.

The two aforementioned persons had obtained a settlement card in the same year, but the government included their names on the wanted list after the attack in Daraa.
