Local imam and muezzin shot in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the imam and the muezzin of the mosque of the town of Busayrah, 35 km east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, were wounded when unidentified gunmen targeted them.

A local source from the town said that unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot both the imam and the muezzin of al-Rahman Mosque in the town while leaving the evening prayer.

The source told North Press that the imam and the muezzin were seriously injured, and they were transferred to the Public Hospital in the same town.

Recently, the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing large-scale assassinations of the SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal notables and civilian residents, some of which ISIS has claimed responsibility for.

On Thursday, two members of the Syrian Democratic Forces lost their lives and another was wounded, when unidentified gunmen targeted them in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Several days ago, ISIS, through media centers close to it, claimed responsibility for the bombing of a building that the SDF had previously used as headquarters for its members in the town of Tel Daman, north of Deir ez-Zor.
