Syrian Democratic Council seeks to unify national democratic opposition
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, through its official website, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) revealed its efforts to gather national and democratic opposition forces with the aim of holding a general national conference on the basis of implementing UN Resolution 2254.
The two leading delegations met via video technology, headed by Ilham Ahamd, President of the Executive Committee of The Syrian Democratic Council, and Qadri Jamil, Secretary General of the People’s Will Party discussed developments in the political situation at the international and regional levels, especially the internal ones, whose main title was the continued absence of some national opposition forces from the political process.
The meeting referred to “the disruption of the political solution and the deepening of the de facto division through the persistence of hardliners in both the regime and the opposition through narrow-minded and short-sighted measures and proposals.”
The meeting suggested that the situation in the country requires continuous efforts to bring together democratic opposition forces to hold a national conference on the basis of implementing the resolution.
The two parties agreed to continue and enhance communication to achieve the goals of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between them, and to expand the scope of their joint work.
At the end of August 2020, the Syrian Democratic Council and the People’s Will Party signed a memorandum of understanding with articles related to a political roadmap to solve the Syrian crisis in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 and the drafting of the Syrian constitution.
